Some parts of the pack may not be relevent to you as Linden goes into details about smoking, drugs and specific anxiety conditions such as PTSD. However whatever type of anxiety you are dealing with the treatment is exactly the same.

For the first 9 days you will listen to a visualisation CD before reading one of the nine pillars in turn. This is to help you fully understand the rules you need to follow and to begin to implement them into your daily routines. You can read the book as slowly or quickly as you like.

After you have understood the nine pillars you then need to listen to a deep relaxation visualisation CD each day (if possible). This helps you learn how to relax your body and mind. I thought I knew how to relax but in fact it has taken me quite a while to know how the feeling of total relaxation feels! For me my shoulders tensing up are the first sign of being stressed. When you know what to look for it becomes easier to quickly relax.

There are other CD’s to listen to while out and about to help you relax and also confidence building visualisations for various tasks you might face.

In a way there was nothing new in the pack that I didn’t already know but it has been written in such a way that I now understand what I have learnt! The symptoms you get when stressed or anxious are nothing more than sensations based upon what your mind is telling you. I hadn’t got my head around that before. Since the symptoms were real (diarrhea, heart pumping, etc.) I believed the fear was valid. This isn’t true. The fear itself is not based on truth because the situation like going to someones house is not a life threatening situation.

What the Linden Method does is to retrain or reprogram your brain to view these situations as being normal again so that you no longer over react to them. It is powerful. Within two weeks I had my first real proof that it was working. My 6 year old daughter got invited to go to the cinema by a friend and I was asked to accompany her which was fine. Her friends mum then said shall we go in one car and said she would drive. Before I would have made up an excuse why I needed to drive – I have done that before. Instead I said OK that would be great! When I got home I was amazed and so proud of myself. I listened to one of the relaxation CD’s and went out that evening with NO anxiety!
